Schropp, John (b. 15 NOV 1784, d. 05 JAN 1851)
Note: Buried in Lutheran and Reformed Churchyard at Sacramento,
Pennsylvania No record has been found of any other children.
John Schrope made his will in German script on 05 January, 1849
and was entered in Schuylkill County Will Book 2 on page 122 on
27 January, 1851. He named only his two sons, Andrew and John.
John, (1784) could speak, read and write in German only. The
earliest existing list of Communicants at St. Jacobs Church,
dated November, 1799 contains the name Johannes Schrop, the 15
year old son of Andreas, Sr. In the year 1811 when Schuylkill
County was organized Andrew's name was on the tax list.
Elizabeth and Johannes Schrope settled on lands northwest of
the present town of Valley View. Application for this land was
made on 05 August, 1765, by David Kennedy, of New York. The
land was described as situated over the Broad Mountain of Deep
Run in what was then Berks County, containing 330 acres and 100
perches. The tract was surveyed on 06 May, 1773 and portions
of it were sold to Conrad Freedlein, John Wolf, G. M.
Hollen-beck, George Wolfgang, Joseph and Sara Dubs, Jacob
Kimmel, David Artz, Jacob Artz, Jr. and Peter Lucas, from whom
Johannes Schrope acquired his land. By 1845 he owned upwards
of 500 acres. John Schrope, Sr. (1784) served in the Militia
during the War of 1812. Recorded in the Pennsylvania Archives
page 6, volume VIII. The tax records for 1817 show; John
Schrope, 100 acres, 2 horses, 2 cows, total of $790.00. In
1823 the tax records shows; 155 acres, 2 horses, 2 cows, Total
of $993.00. Some land purchases made by John Schrope, Sr.: DEED

02 Apr., 1877 To Amos 147 496 18 June, 1877
This property is in Hegins Township. Johannes Schrope, Sr.
owned a large tract of land in Valley View. His operations
were very extensive in scope, as may be judged from the fact
that his property, later cut up, contained what became six
farms, all of great size. There he passed the remaining years
of his life, one of the substan-tial and reliable men of his
community, an influential voice in civic affairs and a force
for progress and advancement along all lines. Johannes Schrope,
Sr. and his two sons, Andrew and John, Jr. operated this large
tract of land jointly for some years. At one time they had
twelve head of horses. After the sons married Johannes Sr.
began to sell and divided his property between them. On 22
January, 1848 he sold his son, John 150 acres and 138 perches
of land for $2,000.00; and later that same year he deeded to
his son John, for a consideration of $5.00, the farm which
later became the property of John Jr.'s sons, Jacob and Amos
Schrope. John, son of Johannes, lived in a log house near the
brook, east of the house which he built, and was still standing
in 1932. Andrew Schrope received for a like consideration the
eastern part of the farm later owned by his son, John C.
Schrope. Andrew and his wife Elizabeth (Crawford) first lived
in an old cabin, at the mountain, afterward owned and occupied
by John Wolfgang. That dwelling had a straw roof and an old
stable.
